Joel Thomas  Hynes

Joel Thomas Hynes (aka Joel Hynes) is the author of Down to the Dirt, winner of the Percy Janes First Novel Award, shortlisted for the Winterset Award and nominated for the Dublin IMPAC Award. He co-wrote the acclaimed stageplay The Devil You Don’t Know and his recent play Say Nothing Saw Wood, won the Best Dramatic Script Award at the 2005 NL Arts and Letters. Also an actor, Hynes has performed leading roles in numerous stageplays, films and television productions, and received the prestigious Golden Sheaf Award for Best Actor at the Yorkton Film Festival.

Joel was a series regular and contributing writer for the CBC’s Hatching, Matching and Dispatching. His novel Right Away Monday, was released in 2007. In 2008 Down to the Dirt was made into a feature film and showed at the Cannes Film Festival.

Hynes lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Joel Thomas Hynes reads two stories in the collection In the Chambers of the Sea by Susan Rendell. Along with Jonny Harris and Sherry White he reads his own award winning novel, Down to the Dirt.

Most recently Joel read his piece Say Nothing, Saw Wood for EarLit Shorts One and Michael and Jesus by Catherine Hogan Safer for EarLit Shorts Two.
